I suppose there’s some sense in McFly having a crack at becoming as big in the US as they are in the UK right now, as… well, it’s not like their UK popularity of 2012 is setting the target especially high, is it?

Gordon is being very supportive:
After a decade topping the UK charts, the four-piece are finally making a bid to crack the States.

The early signs are very good. Two nights at The Roxy, then two more at the famous Gramercy Theatre in New York this month all sold out in under a minute.
Finally making a bid to break the US, eh?

Have we forgotten 2006, when – buoyed by an appearance on the soundtrack to a Lindsay Lohan movie (oh, boys, you are so of your time) – the band, erm, made a huge push to break the states. Look, their website was very excited:

McFly are as we speak on a jet plane home after an 8 day promotional trip to the U.S. The boys have giving back to back interviews and performances from the East Coast in New York to the West Coast and Los Angeles ahead of the release of their U.S. album on May 9th and their movie debut in Just My Luck on May 12th. The boys will be back in the studio writing and recording in the UK before returning to the USA at the end of the month.

That album was the only one that got an American release.

And, despite Gordon’s reportage, the band are pretty clear that this isn’t really an attempt to build a massive new Romeny-voting fanbase, but merely a thank-you to their existing, small fanbase there – they don’t even have a US label right now. They told Billboard about the dates, stressing what it was all about:
“We just want to go over and do some small shows for the fans that we know we have there,” says McFly’s co-lead singer and guitarist Tom Fletcher. “We’ve been wanting to do that for years and years and years and years. But we’ve just never had the opportunity, or something else has come up.”

“We have some fans in America that have been fans for like eight or nine years — right from the beginning — so much so that they fly over to see us in the U.K. It’s amazing that they are so dedicated. So I think we owe it to them to come over.”

Doesn’t really sound like a band seeing this as their big US break, does it?

[x10]On Tour > US Tour > The Roxy Theatre L.A. – September 7

The UK invasion continues!!

One of our longtime favorite UK bands, McFly, just played their first real concert in the US on Friday night and boy was it one for the books. Danny, Dougie, Tom and Harry have played sold out arena shows all over Europe, but on Friday they played to an intimate sold out crowd at the Roxy in Los Angeles, but if you didn’t know any better, you’d swear it was an arena show.

The foursome packed on the energy right out of the game opening with “Nowhere to Run” and then playing songs from all five of their albums including “5 Colours in Her Hair,” “Walk In the Sun,” “Shine A Light,” and more. They even threw in covers of One Direction, Rihanna and Gotye.

The crowd was dancing and singing all night and loved every minute of it! McFly also played a trio of new songs from their upcoming sixth album including “Red,” “Touch the Rain,” and a brand-spankin’ new one called “Love Is Easy.”

The guys will do it all over again with a show at the Roxy on Monday night before heading out to NYC later this week for two shows. We have a feeling this is just the start of the band’s US domination. We wish it hadn’t taken 9 years, but it is well worth the wait!

The person who wrote the article seems to don’t know yet that the boys added two more dates in the USA.

Celeb Buzz: The British pop group McFly is a big-deal success in their native country—Billboard.com notes. 17 top 10 singles and six top 20 albums since 2004—but most Americans don’t have a clue about the handsome quartet of “cheeky lads.” That will change in September when McFly wings it to the U.S. for two intimate concerts on opposite sides of the country.
McFly has never toured these shores and has released just one album here, the compilation CD Just My Luck, a promotional tie-in to the Lindsay Lohan film of the same name that also featured the group in a cameo.
Co-lead singer and guitarist Tom Fletcher said the lads have been wanting to come to the United States “for years and years and years. But we’ve just never had the opportunity, or something else has come up.”
“We have some fans in America that have been fans for like eight or nine years—right from the beginning—so much so that they fly over to see us in the U.K. It’s amazing that they are so dedicated. So I think we owe it to them to come over.”

Fletcher said the plan was to begin recording McFly’s sixth album this summer, so American fans might just get a tease of their new material.

Look for them at the Roxy in Los Angeles on September 10, and the Gramercy Theatre in New York City later that week, Sept. 13. Ardent fans on Twitter can also keep up with the latest news using the #McFlyUSA hashtag.

As McFly are going to USA in september to do a few concerts, David Spearing has a new project in mind that involve all of you American fans.
For more info about the project follow this tumblr mcflyusafilm.tumblr.com/

~ McFly USA – The Film Project.

Are you coming to one of the shows in September? Are you and your friends travelling a long way to get there?

If so… we would love for you to film your journeys as part of McFlys American Documentary film…

Tell us your stories, film your road trip, let us know what these shows mean to you! We will be documenting McFlys trip to America and we would really like to have as many fans as possible involved in telling that story.

If you have a video camera, or DSLR camera with video capability, then start shooting.. The footage should be filmed in PAL (European) not NTSC (USA).

Introduce us to your world, tell us how long you’ve been a fan for, how long you’ve been waiting for McFly to play a show in your country.

Show us your hometowns, your family, your friends.. Show us how McFly has affected your lives.

Film every part of your story and journey to the show you’re attending. The more you film, the more we’ll include.

Be creative and have fun!

Here are a few filmmaking guidelines to help you along your way:

~ Cutaways.

Always get shots of your surroundings. Let us see everything that you see on your journey.

~ Interviews.

Travelling with friends? Interview them… get them to tell you and the camera their McFly stories.

Travelling alone? Film yourself and introduce your story… talk to the camera throughout your trip.

~ Questions.

Where are you from? How long have you been a fan? How many miles are you travelling to see McFly?

Whats your favourite song? How excited are you to see McFly live? Etc….

Once you arrive at the venue, make contact with David Spearing (McFlys cameraman) and he will get all the footage from you to include in his edit of the American Tour film.

Any questions? Send an ask on this tumblr or tweet @davidspearing, email: info@davidspearing.com
