RHYL is to play host to internationally acclaimed pop band McFly in celebration of the Olympic Games on the promenade this weekend.

For the first time, secured high screening built up around Rhyl Events Arena will close off public viewing, temporarily changing the arena’s format and enabling ticket-only admission.

The concert is hoped to be the first of many premium events to be hosted at the arena and attracting thousands of visitors into the town.

In honour of the Olympics Games closing ceremony on Sunday, the two-part event will see McFly take to the stage in an afternoon concert followed by live streaming of the ceremony on big screens in the arena.

Situated on the promenade, the arena, built in 1995, accommodates an annual programme of county events.

Tickets for the concert are £20 – call 01745 33 00 00 or visit www.rhylpavilion.co.uk.

Chart stars McFly have been added to the bill of the free Olympics concert in London’s Hyde Park.

The quartet – whose drummer Harry Judd won last year’s Strictly Come Dancing – will play the BT London Live show on August 4.

They join a list of acts which includes Sir Tom Jones, the cast of We Will Rock You, Feeder, Dodgy, The Levellers, Cast and Amy Macdonald.

The event will also feature giant screens carrying footage of many of the sporting events that day, with 25 medals to be awarded.

Finals of the women’s 100m and women’s triathlon are among the highlights along with a number of swimming and rowing finals.

The event is in addition to the BT London Live shows which coincide with the opening and closing ceremonies, featuring Duran Duran and Blur.
