British boy band McFly have bid farewell to BBC Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles through a special tribute video.

The group, consisting of members Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd, performed a reworked version of their popular 2006 hit ‘Star Girl’- which they changed to ‘Star Boy’- as a special send-off gift for the DJ’s last ever breakfast show this morning (Sept. 14).

The original track has been ritually played every Friday on the 38-year-old’s show, as part of his ‘McFlyday’ feature since 2010.
It comes after a star-studded send-off on Thursday by showbiz pals including James Corden, Gary Barlow, Ant and Dec who hosted a This Is Your Life-style farewell for Moyles as he prepared to step down at the BBC’s Radio Theatre in London.

Chris, who has been hosting the show for more than eight years, said his final programme on Friday (Sept. 14) felt like ”some weird victory” after ”all the flak we’ve taken.”
Added the Leeds native, ”Thank you to everyone who listened and supported us.”

28-year former T4 show host Nick Grimshaw will take over the coveted Radio 1 breakfast show slot from Moyles on Monday (Sept. 24).

The band dedicated re-worked version of track to DJ

Chris Moyles bid farewell to his Radio 1 breakfast show this morning (September 14) and McFly thought they’d give him a send-of to remember as they paid tribute to Chris Moyles and his team with a special video.

The band performed and recorded a reworked version of their 2006 single ‘Star Girl’ – reworking it as ‘Star Boy’.

The ‘Star Girl’ track was backed by Moyles and has been played on every Friday of his show, as part of their ‘McFlyday’ feature since 2010.

Moyles announced his plans to leave the show last month and will now move to a late evening timeslot when Nick Grimshaw takes over the breakfast show on 24 September.

Moyles is Radio 1’s longest-serving breakfast show DJ having presented the early morning slot since 2004 as well as the station’s longest-serving DJ after 15 years at Radio 1.

As he is contracted with BBC station until 2014, Moyles and his radio team will be moved to a new time slot.

“We just got through all of it and here we all are celebrating us, and I’m really proud,” said Moyles.

“I’m very proud of everyone on the show, our team have been brilliant, our audience have been brilliant. Thank you to everyone who has listened and supported us,” he continued.

On his penultimate show yesterday (September 13) the DJ was joined by the likes of Gary Barlow, Davina McCall and James Corden, plus a live audience of more than 200 fans.

Many of his celebritty friends and work colleges have sent the DJ messages of good luck ahead of his final show.

Nick Grimshaw posted: ”have a good show @CHRISDJMOYLES! i will miss u in the morning :( #ByeChrisMoylesShow p.s. leave the instruction manual on the desk”

While, Huw Stephens said: ”#ByeChrisMoylesShow all the best with the last show you lovely people:)”

Chris Moyles must be a popular man as the hashtag #ByeChrisMoylesShow is currently trending Worldwide on Twitter.
