He has co-writer credits on many of McFly's tracks, including the lead writer credit on their 2007 number one single "Transylvania". Poynter also wrote an unrecorded track called Silence Is A Scary Sound, which is featured as a live recording on their third studio album Motion In The Ocean. Poynter was 15 when he joined the band. Because of his young age, Dougie and the other members of McFly hold the record for the youngest band to ever have a debut album go straight to number one, a record previously held by The Beatles. McFly are currently recording their 6th studio album... keep reading.

Read below a brief article talking about McFly/McBusted at the Cool FM Jingle Ball, also there’s a mistake in the article as they say BackStreet Boys are going to be McBusted’s support act during the tour and for now they’re only supporting them at the Hyde Park concert.
[…]Last but certainly not least were the Main Act, the lads from McFly & Busted who recently announced their evolution of super group “McBusted” due to start their UK arena tour on the 17th April & are coming to Belfast for 2 nights on the 31st May. The lads told us the legendary “Backstreet Boys” will be supporting them on tour & they are really honoured & excited to tour with them. The McBusted tour sold out in all locations within ten minutes & they cannot believe the love & support they have received since announcing the tour.
The boys were full of energy & had a proper laugh with us backstage, they slagged our Northern Ireland accents with Dougie counting to ten in our accent. When asked if any of them had planned to go into the Jungle next year it was suggested by Harry that Im a Celebrity should have a “victors year” were all the Kings & Queens of the Jungle should be entered into the Jungle & all the Kings & Queens could battle it out for the Super King or Queen of The Jungle.
The lads had the Odyssey bouncing & the crowd went CRAZY when the lads from Busted came on stage to announce the second Belfast date added to their tour. When asked if they had planned to write new material as McBusted they told us they had nothing planned but hoped to do so for the tour. Both McFly & Busted admitted they are excited to play each others music. The lads are set to take the UK by storm with their new supergroup and we certainly don’t doubt them after their amazing performance at this years Cool FM Jingle Ball. McBusted will perform at The Odyssey Arena on the 31st may and the 1st of June.
Mark Mahaffy, Managing Director of Cool FM said, “Last night was an amazing show from all of the acts, from up and coming boybands like The Vamps to big stadium fillers like McFly – every act brought the house down.”
