McFly popped into to see Alan Carr to film an appearance on Chatty Man last night, and as well as spilling the details on new book Unsaid Things: Our Story, band member Dougie Poynter also revealed his battle against drink and drugs that ended with a stint in rehab last February.

According to The Mirror, Alan asked Dougie about the experience, which he made the decision to share in the band’s new autobiography.

Apparently writing it down was a fairly cathartic process as Dougie explained, saying: “It’s always good to reflect on that sort of stuff. I’m in a really, really good place now. It is quite easy to forget.”

“It’s quite therapeutic to go back, quite scary and a bit of an eye opener into how dark it can get if you take your foot off the gas and stop looking after yourself.

“Half the time you didn’t know what you were doing – it was us telling you,” Harry added.

“Yes, because I was so battered,” Dougie said.

But although he is now recovered and went on to win I’m A Celeb, Dougie also revealed that he only decided to seek help after hitting rock bottom and attempting suicide in a fume-filled car last February.

Following the experience he entered rehab where he was treated for depression.

“We are all in good places now. Dougie has sorted himself out and I am married,” Tom added.
