SEVEN energetic students from Plymouth University will attempt to complete 24-hours of sport to raise money for charity.

Nathan Gornall, Steve Ayre, Jack-William Cantwell, Rob Durgut, George Ffoulkes, Elliot Beazer and Nathan Nicholls will take part in a different sport every hour for an hour, between 9am and 9pm over two days, to raise vital funds for Sport Relief.

The seven students have set themselves a target of raising £1,000 but are hoping to exceed it.

Nathan Gornall, 20, who organised the event, said: “We are all very sporty and following on from a charity event I did earlier in the year, I wanted to set myself a real challenge, something on a more personal level.

“We are seeking sponsorship from local companies and are trying to raise as much money as possible for such a great charity.

“We decided to split the 24-hours into two 12-hour sessions to enable a lot more people to come and watch us and are hoping everyone comes out to support the team.”

The team also have the support of many of the University’s sports clubs, as well as sponsorship from the Student’s Union who are funding their hall hire and kit.

Pop-band McFly are performing in the Student Union on Saturday February 25, and the Union’s events manager is currently in talks with the band to perhaps join the student fundraiser’s for one of the sports.

The students kick-off their fundraising attempt on Saturday February 25 at 9am in Central Park with a game of golf.

From Lacrosse to salsa dancing and badminton to cheerleading, the 24 events are spread out between Central Park, the Hoe, Plymouth Pavilions, Mutley College and Plymouth University to name just a few, and the lads have just five minutes to get to each session.

The event will also be filmed and uploaded to Sport Relief’s YouTube page where further donations can be made.
