So, McFly are definitely back to playing music full-time after a brief hiatus caught up in the worlds of Strictly Come Dancing, I’m A Celebrity Get Me Outta Here! and, umm, Popstar to Operastar. Oh dear. At least they’re willing to laugh at themselves.

But they really are best at riffing their way through pop-y, rocky, catchy tunes about girls with colours in their hair.

Made up of the rehab hopping, razor-cheek boned bassist Dougie Poynter, floppy haired lead singer Tom Fletcher, marathon running drummer Harry Judd and Danny Jones, (who recently got engaged, aww), the band are currently in the midst of celebrating their 10th anniversary – it makes you feel old doesn’t it?

Launching to manufactured pop success in 2003, the foursome started out in the same vein as Busted, outlived them and went on to survive setting up their own record label and even the truly awful, trashy American teen movie Just Like You with Lindsey Lohan.

They’ve got five albums to their name – which, by the way, was ripped from Marty McFly in Back to the Future – seven Number 1 singles and 10 million record sales in the bank, not to mention a whole load of Smash Hits awards from their (very) early days.

We still love them, hence why you’ll probably find us leaping about at the front for their Summer Saturday Live gig, the last of the summer’s Newmarket Racecourse concerts (sob).

:: McFly, Summer Saturday’s Live, Newmarket Racecourse, Saturday, August 24, gates open 2 hours before the first race at 5.55pm, music starts after the last race of the day. Tickets £15-£29 from 08445793010 / https://newmarkettickets.thejockeyclub.co.uk/Online/
