Rebecca Clarke witnesses the continued appeal of the blend of two popular pop-punk boybands.

The amalgamation of McFly and Busted took to the stage after the last race at Newmarket’s July racecourse last Saturday, as part of the racecourse’s Summer Saturday special event, and thoroughly entertained the large crowd.

The combined talents of McBusted certainly knew how to engage the audience, with a show packed full of relentless on-stage energy, humour and banter between band members.
It may have come as a surprise to the younger generation of fans that the two bands have been producing albums for over 10 years, but – judging by their reception on this summer early evening – their popularity shows no signs of waning.

Other than Harry Judd who was at the rear of the stage on drums all five other members contributed to vocals, all joining in to play guitar and manage the general captivation of the crowd.

Amongst the hits blasted out were Busted’s ‘You Said No’, ‘Air Hostess’ and ‘Crashed the Wedding’ along with McFly’s hits ‘All About You’, ‘Obviously’ and ‘Stargirl’. There weren’t too many of the 20,000 revellers who weren’t singing along!

The band members clearly enjoyed engaging with each other, which added to the entertainment and amusement in between their songs and they had a few killer dance moves to show off too.

The encore ended with ‘Year 3000’. Who knows if McBusted’s music will still be listened to then, but judging by this performance I think they’ll be around for a long time yet, and their success is well deserved.
